Puerto Rico is the leading Caribbean destination for U.S. travelers heading into the 2025 holiday season, outpacing Mexico and the Dominican Republic, according to Sojern’s latest global travel trends report.
The study found that while overall U.S. flight bookings to Latin America and the Caribbean are down 8% from last year, Puerto Rico is up 9% — with a 7% increase from U.S. travelers and a 28% rise from international markets.
Sojern said Puerto Rico’s strong performance reflects its continued recovery and its appeal to travelers seeking convenience, familiarity and value.
Other destinations reported declines, including Mexico (-5%), the Dominican Republic (-6%) and Costa Rica (-15%), reflecting a more cautious approach to long-haul leisure spending.
Noreen Henry, Sojern’s chief revenue officer, said the data suggests travelers are “making more intentional choices about where and how they spend.” She added that the “data shows a clear opportunity for travel marketers to promote regional getaways and flexible pricing.”
The report also highlighted U.S. domestic trends: 90% of Americans plan to travel by road this holiday season, while domestic flight bookings are up 4%. Sojern expects late bookings tied to Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Travel Tuesday to fuel a wave of last-minute deals.
